Google Exploring Personal E-mail Domains

US Internet search portal Google is testing a service that allows people to customize e-mail accounts with their names or other personal touches.
Students at a community college in Silicon Valley were invited by Gmail product manager Stephanie Hannon on Monday to make their own Gmail account domain names, the part of an e-mail address that follows the “at” sign.
Students at San Jose Community College can customize addresses with their own names, school teams, or other personal touches, Hannon said in a blog entry at the Google website.
“We’re testing a new service with the school by hosting Gmail accounts with SJCC domain addresses (like student@jaguars.sjcc.edu) plus admin tools for efficient account management,” Hannon wrote.
Hannon left an online invitation for other schools, businesses or organizations to contact Google about crafting their own Gmail domain addresses. – AFP
